Somewhere along the way I found a way to deal with fruit flies in my kitchen. A small glass of wine, or fruit vinegar is set out, usually on the shelf above the fruit bowl. Add a squirt of dish soap. They will drown themselves in this soup, unable to fly out of the soapy mix. It's disgusting, but beats having your eyes go out of focus when those pesky little fruit flies buzz your face while you work in the kitchen.
