Yesterday I got the best tip ever from my friend Karen. Like me, she quarters, seeds, and bakes pumpkins on a cookie sheet in the oven until soft. But instead of burning her fingertips to scoop the innards out of the shell, she trims off imperfections before she bakes, and then whizzes everything through the blender after it's cooked. She says it takes a little longer to blend to make the skin disappear, but what a great idea. Now if my pumpkin would only get ripe...
