The mug rug. Defined as bigger than a coaster, smaller than a placemat. Just the size for a hot coffee or tea, and a snack. I love making these. I make mine the size of a loose leaf sheet with one of the margins ripped off (the one with the holes in it). The inside is quilting, fleece, fortrel, or other thickish fabric. The backs are either a print or a plain. The binding is one width of 45" fabric, 2 1/2 inches wide, folded in half. It is a great project for practicing mitering on. I like the idea that one can use up those tiny little scraps of fabric, and selvedges (I do love fabric with words on it) and one can have oodles of color schemes without breaking the bank making full size quilts.
